SCHOOL NURSE

The school nurse's office is located in the health trailer behind Gallant Hall.
The nurse requests that all students and their parents submit a set of health forms back to her office at the beginning of the school year.

If active students have not submitted their forms back to the nurse's office, please print out the forms listed here, fill them out and submit them in person to school nurse Roberta Morrison as soon as possible.

Essex Agricultural  & Technical High School  School Wellness Policy

The Essex Agricultural & Tech. High School recognizes that a comprehensive SchoolWellness Policy contributes to the health and well being of our students. Through a

Comprehensive Health and Physical Education program students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy choices contributing to a lifetime of good health.

In addition, with the cooperation and support of the school district’s Food Services Program, healthy nutritional choices will continue to be offered to all students through a well-balanced lunch.

                                            Health and Nutrition Education Goals

Provide a sequential Health Education program that emphasizes knowledge and skills that is consistent with the Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks

Stress the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, set goals for improvement and resist peer and wider social pressures.

Maintain a safe and healthy school environment that promotes healthy decision

Integrate Nutrition Education within a school health education program.

Train staff primarily responsible for nutrition education and have them regularly participate in professional development activities to deliver quality Nutrition Education.

Engage family members as a critical part of the team responsible for teaching  children about health and nutrition.

 

Student Health Policies

Physical Examination Requirements :  

1. All new or transfer students are required to have a physical exam. This must be done by their

2. All athletes must have a physical exam on an annual basis before practice starts.

3. An exam done within six months of entrance into school and with written verification is acceptable mmunizations

    1. Immunizations are required in keeping with the regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

    2. Immunization clinics are set up in the school to meet these requirements.

 

Normal Procedure for Going to the Nurse

1. Obtain a signed, dated and timed pass from the instructor to whom you have been assigned.

2. Proceed directly to the nurse with all your belongings.

3. If the Health Office is closed, report directly to the High School Office.

When the need arises for dispensing medications during the school day, the following procedure will be in effect:

 

A. OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS

1. A written, signed and dated request should be made by the parent or guardian requesting the administration of medication to his/her child during sdlool hours.

2. Tylenol may be dispensed by the nurse for headache, cramps, etc. only with the written permission of parent or guardian.

 

B. PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

1. State regulations are in effect governing the administration of prescription medications during school hours. These regulations also govern the use of inhalers carried by many students.

These regulations require signed medication orders by health care providers and signed consent forms by parent or guardian.

Please contact the school nurse if your student will require any prescription medication during the school day.

2. All prescription medication must be delivered to the school in a container labeled by your pharmacist or health care provider.

 

Health Policy For Emergencies

In the event of sudden, serious illness, or accident requiring medical attention, and the parents cannot be reached, the student will be taken to the nearest emergency facility (by ambulance, if necessary) and the parent will be responsible for all medical costs incurred. For this reason it is important to have emergency numbers where the school can reach the parent or their designate during school hours.
