Overview of the Essex Ag-Tech High School scheduling system Beginning
in the 03-04 school year Essex Ag Tech has changed the classroom scheduling
system from a basic 5 day cycle that had one-half day of academic classes and
the other half day of voc classes to an 8 day cycle of
8 periods per day, whereby a single student will alternate between
one full day of academic classes
and one full day of vocational classes
. On ODD days, (Days 1-3-5-7) freshmen and seniors have academic classes. Sophomores and juniors have vocational classes. On EVEN days (Days
2-4-6-8) freshmen and seniors have vocational
classes . Sophomores and juniors have academic classes. In the MMS school data base the course numbers were increased from 3 to 4 digits in order to make identification easier. Academic course numbers start from 1000 and run to 4999. Vocational courses run from 5000 to the 8000's. The FIRST DIGIT of the course number tells you the subject area: 1000’s =English 2000's =Math 3000's =History 4000's =Science & Physical Ed 5000’s= Animal Science is in the 6000’s = Plant Science 7000’s=Environmental Science 8000’s = Shops, Careers and Computers (except Drafting which is in 6000’s) The SECOND DIGIT in the four digit course number signifies the grade level: x1xx signifies freshmen classes x2xx signifies sophomore classes x3xx signifies junior classes x4xx signifies senior classes The THIRD DIGIT in the vocational junior and senior course number shows the student’s major: the 532x and 542x courses are animal science Agribusiness/Grooming courses the 534x and 544x courses are animal science Veterinary Tech courses the 536x and 546x courses are animal science Horse Management courses the 632x and 642x courses are plant science Floriculture courses the 634x and 644x courses are plant science Ornamental Horticulture courses the 636x and 646x courses are plant science Natural Resources courses The FOURTH DIGIT in the academic course number show the course level: If the course ends in a “3”, the course is an honors course. If the course ends in a “2”, the course is a lower level course. If the course ends in a “1”, the course is a mid-level course. (Most courses ending in 2 and 1 have multiple sections. Honors sections have only one section.) Note that , beginning this year, students had a choice in picking their academic course schedule. Therefore student academic schedules are CUSTOMIZED and do NOT follow a basic track for each student . In the vocational courses, each course has only one section per course number. There are 6 freshmen groups.. Sophomore animal science and plant science courses have 3 groups each. Sophomore animal science students swap half-year courses with Computers and Ag mechanics. Sophomore plant science & environmental science students swap half-year courses with Computers and Drafting. |
